Gender-Neutral Nursery Sources

This nursery makeover has been a DREAM!! I’ve had so much fun finding inspiration on Pinterest, playing with different designs, and sourcing products. Since we don’t know the gender yet so we opted for a gender-neutral nursery. The wallpaper was one of the first items I chose to set the “theme” and let the ideas flow from there. We went with the Busy Brook wallpaper from Nestig. With little farm animals, trees, and a glimpse of nature – this wallpaper reminds me of the countryside that Devin and I both grew up loving. We hope to have lots of land someday and raise our babies loving the outdoors so we decided to try and bring the countryside home to Florida! Below you’ll find all the sources for our nursery products and DIY tutorials for all the projects we tackled to completely transform this space.

Crib Nook

I designed the back wall to specifically fit the Woodland Cloud Crib from Nestig. This crib starts as a mini crib, converts to a full-size crib, then a toddler bed! When the crib extends it will still fit perfectly in the little nook in between the two closets. In the future, we could add a small vanity, dresser or desk in between the closets so it’s a very versatile nook!

I have been dreaming about the Woodland Cloud Crib and the Busy Brook Wallpaper from Nestig and was ecstatic when they wanted to partner up. We are incredibly lucky to have been gifted the wallpaper, crib, and cute airplane mobile. With Devin being a pilot the airplane mobile was a special touch but they have so many other themes to choose from.

Another tiny detail I was excited about was these cuddle+kind hand-knit dolls. We didn’t want to go all out with toys and stuffed animals, especially since we don’t know the gender yet. But I thought it was important for us to buy our baby’s first stuffie which will always be a special keepsake. I was happy to support a great company too. With every cuddle+kind doll purchase, they give 10 nutritious meals to children in need. I’m sure Henry the Bunny will be the first of many cuddle+kind animals that our little one receives through the years.

Ikea Wardrobe Units

We took out the only existing closet in this room and closed off a door on the back wall so that we could install these Ikea Pax Units. I’ve used these for many projects and I love how functional and versatile they are. We configured the inside of the closets with drawers, shelves, and hanging rods that are adjustable and can be changed around as our little one gets older.

We went with two of the 39 3/8″ x 22 7/8″ x 92 7/8″ wardrobes. For doors, we went with the traditional style Grimo door. I primed the doors and the sides of the wardrobe then painted them with Restrained Gold by Sherwin Williams. I went with a semi-gloss paint to give them a high-end feel and they turned out gorgeous. To finish them off I installed these brushed satin nickel door pulls from Amazon that are over 12″ long.

Changing Station

A dresser / changing station was another non-negotiable for the nursery. While shopping around for dressers I wanted one that looked timeless and beautiful but was also made with quality in mind. I reached out to Namesake after falling in love with a few of their pieces and they graciously gifted us the Brismsley Dresser as well as our Crewe Power Recliner. Namesake nursery pieces are carefully crafted and vetted by extensive quality testing to secure their place in your family for years to come. I highly recommend you check out their pieces if you’re in the nursery market. With 6 spacious drawers, we will be able to store diapers, onesies, and everyday essentials to make life a bit easier as new parents.

I used these cubs and these drawer dividers from Amazon to organize the dresser drawers.

A few other items in our changing station are a beautiful walnut mirror from Wayfair as well as the Keekaroo changing pad. I’ve heard from lots of moms including my sister that the Keekaroo is worth the investment and is a lifesaver when it comes to diaper changes. While I wish I could say “We can’t wait to try it out”, diaper changes are one thing that we are not looking forward to…

Cozy Corner

Baby isn’t here yet but I find myself sitting in this corner all the time. We plan to spend lots of early mornings and late nights in this chair so we opted for one with all the bells and whistles. This Crewe Recliner from Namesake has a power reclining function, it glides, swivels, and even has USB charging ports. It’s also made with water-repellant and stain-resistant fabric which I’m sure we will come to appreciate with a little one. They have a few great stunning styles and colors to choose from.

Along with the recliner we have a walnut pedestal side table that I found from T.J. Maxx. I can’t link this exact one for you but I found a similar one from Wayfair. I also hung a few walnut picture ledges from Amazon. They’re almost 4″ deep so they have lots of room for our growing book collection.

Lighting

Lighting was a very difficult decision for me because there are so many fun and cute lighting options available. We went with this scalloped ceiling light from Crate & Kids. For the reading nook, I found this funky, yellow-stripped floor lamp from Urban Outfitters. And for the changing table, we went with a cute squirrel lamp that I am simply obsessed with.

Rug & Curtains

I’ve had this jute floor rug in our home office for a few years hoping that it would one day go in our nursery. It’s the perfect neutral color with a fun grid-like design to add some character to any space.

It was very important to go with blackout curtains but I didn’t want to sacrifice beauty. These linen drape curtains from TwoPages offer a true 100% blackout lining, the pinstripe design is so fun/classy and the pleated style really elevates the entire window.

To go with the curtains we went with a traditional white curtain rod from Amazon as well as these white curtain rings.

DIY Projects

Devin and I DIY’d every project in the nursery. I documented all the tutorials on my YouTube channel so I will link the YouTube video for each of the tutorials below!

Wallpaper: If you’re intimidated by hanging wallpaper yourself, don’t be! In this tutorial, I break down everything you need to install your wallpaper with ease.

Ikea Units: In this video, I show how to install Ikea units properly and add trim to make them look like they’re custom, high-end wardrobes.

Trimwork: From the new base trim to crown molding and even beautiful picture molding, I share how to install all the trim work yourself.

Pottery Barn Inspired Bookhouse: Unfortunately, this project didn’t make the cut in the nursery. We ran out of room after staging the big furniture. But I designed and DIY’ed a bookhouse for less than $100 which was inspired by the Pottery Barn book houses/doll houses that cost over $1,000. It’s the perfect storage solution for books or toys. 🙂
