Scandinavian Decor

All Things Home

16 May

My mom has always wanted to be included in a Home With Stefani blog post. With Mother’s Day this past weekend I thought I would let her have free rein! She wanted to share some Scandinavian inspired décor that was featured in the Nordic Nest vacation rental project! She really does have a great eye for design and after seeing her first blog post debut I though hmm… maybe I do get it from my mama?!

Without further ado… take it away mom!

I always believed that my daughter, Stefani took after me in home improvement and design. I mean.. I don’t know how to use some of those bigger power tools, but I sure do know how to decorate a room! I’ve always incorporated some Scandinavian-inspired décor in my home, which is inspired by my Norwegian roots. When Stefani wanted to help my husband and I build a Scandinavian-styled vacation rental, I was thrilled!!! I already had a vision and knew exactly what kind of décor I wanted to start purchasing to incorporate in each room. If you aren’t familiar with Scandinavian décor, it’s all about minimalism, clean lines and natural elements. Of course, some of my favorite pieces in the vacation rental were DIY’ed by Stefani, but let me share some other décor items that we used that truly encompass the Scandinavian style!!

Scandinavian Décor

Berggren Swedish Mid-Century Folk Art Enamelware White Floral Coffee Pot from Etsy: $60.00

Rosemaling is a form of decorative folk art that originated from Norway.  If you want to design a room or your entire house with Scandinavian elements, I suggest including rosemaling!  It brings some fun color and pattern to the room. In the Nordic Nest vacation rental, we use antique rosemaling along with more modern ceramic pieces (see green mugs below). The antique elements compliment the modern, simple décor very well!!

Borgen Stoneware Coffee Mugs from Wayfair: $40.00

Macrame Wall Hanging Large Dip Dye Tapestry Fiber from Amazon: $59.50

Since the Scandinavian design is very minimalistic, it may often feel bare and cold. Add some warmth with a cool art feature! I found this wall hanging from Amazon and it makes a BIG statement, but in a very simple way!

Tamayo Oval Pill-Shaped Metal Mirror from Wayfair: $77.99

Just like Stefani, I’m a huge HGTV fan, and one thing I learned from watching those shows is how to make a small space feel large and that’s by adding a mirror! I think this oval shaped mirror is so neat and makes the living space feel bright and bigger!

23” x 33” Sylvie The Family Tree Framed Canvas By Rachel Lee Natural—Kate and Laurel from Target: $76.99

Geometric Hummingbird Wall Décor from Etsy: $28.09

One way we incorporated nature into our vacation rental is through art! I have a wall in the bedroom dedicated to bird prints and bird décor. We named the vacation rental the “Nordic Nest” so we had to include a fun bird feature wall!!

Mercury Row Dedmon Wall Light from Wayfair: $54.99

Wall Mounted Triangle Metal Towel Holder from Amazon: $12.99

We went real simple on the fixtures throughout the vacation rental. We kept everything very minimal, again bringing in that Scandinavian look with simplicity and “clean lines.”

Tufted and Braided Striped Square Throw Pillow from Target: $25.00

Imani Throw Pillow from Wayfair: $27.99

Pillows are a fun way to add texture and color to a room. For the Nordic Nest we wanted to play around with more natural colors like green and yellow! I found these throw pillows on Wayfair and Target!

Retro 22” Bottom Freezer 7 Cu. Ft. Refrigerator from Wayfair: $630

Drip coffee Maker, Retro Style from Overstock: $103.99

Stefani and I had fun searching for some retro appliances for the kitchen! We kept the colors consistent with the rest of the décor and fixtures throughout the vacation rental.

Traskwood 1 – Drawer Solid Wood Nightstand in Natural from Wayfair: $209.99

Stefani made these really simple, wooden nightstands for the bedroom (boy am I lucky to have a daughter who is so handy).   I found these from Wayfair that were a similar design. These would definitely fit the Scandinavian style with the natural wood and clean lines!

NAUMOO Natural Wooden Wall Hooks from Amazon- Pack of 4: $19.99

With limited space we wanted an area for our guests to hang their jackets and bags/purses.  These wall hooks are super simple, but very functional!

VELKOMMEN Door Sign from Etsy: $22.00

You need a proper welcome sign on a vacation rental! This cute welcome door hanging sign definitely adds some character and was the perfect addition to the Nordic Nest.
