Hi all! Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner so I thought it would be a great time to share some table setting tips. We’re hosting a Friendsgiving this year and I’m so excited to entertain our guests and make new memories around the dining room table.

Use Garland for a Customizable Centerpiece
This garland can be dressed up and reused for any season. Add some pine cones and pumpkins for thanksgiving or some ornaments and candy canes for Christmas! Either way, using a garland is a great alternative to buying an expensive centerpiece.
Add Tall Candles to Give Your Tablescape Height
Adding some tall candles or a taller centerpiece will give your tablescape some height. This will give your table a bit more variety and will make your tablescape more visually appealing!
Placemats are a Lovely Feature!
Placemats are a fun decorative element that you can find cheap! I went with a simple placemat that can be used for any holiday. If you plan on having messy kids at the table, you can use paper placemats that can go right in the trash after dinner!
Position Your Dinnerware Correctly
Fork, knife, spoon! I learned this early on in Girl Scouts and it comes in handy when it’s time to set the table. Forks go on the left of the plate. Knives go on the right side of the plate and spoons go on the right side of the knife. Drinkware always go on the upper right side of the plate.
Don’t Forget Napkins!
I bought some white napkins that are perfect for any formal or casual dinner! You can dress up the napkins with a fun napkin ring that matches the theme of your dinner.
What Kind of Drinking Glasses Will you Need?
Plan your drinkware accordingly! We plan to have a wine and champagne for our guests so I set the table with a wine glass and champagne glass at each table setting. It would be a good idea to set a water glass by each plate as well.
DIY Your Own Name Tags
Last year for thanksgiving we hunted for pinecones and used them as name-tag holders! If you plan to have seating assignments, this is a cheap and cute idea to set on each plate.
