Workshop Organization

Now that the workshop is finished we are starting to convert our garage into a mudroom / laundry room / powder bath. We had to take everything out of the garage and so I decided it was time to go through everything and get organized.

I had already organized some of the bigger tools items but I still had to go through all the small tools and hardware and miscellaneous junk. I spread everything out on the table and all over the workshop to get inventory of what I had and what types of organizers I needed to buy. I threw out, sold, and donated a ton of items which felt great!!

I bought some great organizers from Amazon and Home Depot, there’s a bunch of organizers that I already had and I’m excited to share them all with you in this post! These are great for a workshop, shed or garage. You can find links to everything in the description below.

Everbilt heavy duty tool holder: https://bit.ly/3MvgePC

To start it off we have this heavy duty tool holder. This can hold up to 50 pounds. I’m going to use this to store some hoses and extension cords. I want this to be nice and sturdy so I got out the stud finder and secured it to studs. They’re incredibly versatile, the list is endless on what you can hang on these.

Wrap-It Storage straps: https://bit.ly/3FHt3CW**

To keep our cords and hoses rolled up neatly I bought a bunch of these Wrap-it storage straps. They come in all different sizes. I’m using the smaller ones for wrapping cords, and the bigger straps for wrapping garden hoses. I wrapped my shop vac hoses with these, I wrapped the ratchet straps for our truck. I found these on Amazon and I know I will be purchasing them again – because they’re amazing.

Retractable Extension Cord: https://bit.ly/3MmShKg**

Next up I have this 30 ft retractable extension cord reel. It’s annoying having to unravel an an extension cord anytime I need to use power in the center of the workshop on the work table. So this was the perfect solution. I like that this one is smaller and not so bulky. I found this on Amazon for $45 bucks. I mounted it to a stud in the wall, you can also mount it on the ceiling. I placed it right next to my husky rolling chest so it’s tucked out of the way.

Husky Rolling tool chest: https://bit.ly/3MxVgQj

Next up is this 5 drawer Husky rolling tool chest. All of the drawers are soft close and it can store so much stuff.

Tray Divider Set: https://bit.ly/478txNU**

To keep everything nice and organized in the tool chest I bought a set of tray dividers. This set came with 58 pieces, all different sizes for only $28 bucks. The containers lock into each other they’re anti-slip, they’re shallow enough to fit into these shallow drawers and you can arrange them however you like.

All of the miscellaneous bits, nuts and bolts now have a home and it’s so much easier to find things this way. I threw away all of the original packaging but cut the label off and set it in the bottom of the container so I knew the specs of each item.

Magnetic Paper Towel Holder: https://bit.ly/3seIMq1

To go along with the husky tool chest I bought this magnetic paper towel holder. I guess this isn’t really an organization item but I was excited to find it and it took 5 seconds to install.

Husky stackable bins 9”: https://bit.ly/40pM0n3

In the bottom of the tool chest I have these stackable 9” bins from husky.

Husky stackable bins 12”: https://bit.ly/47hnGpA

I also got some 12” bins. These are also stackable and can store so many different things. I have these in my cabinets to holder spray paint, stain and as I accumulate more things I can stack them on top of each other.

Pegboard & Custom Storage: https://youtu.be/K5R11bmyrkA

Next up we have this pegboard that I custom built.

I recommend having a pegboard or track system to store tools and things that you use most frequently.

I have a ton of extra storage in my cabinets so my purpose for this pegboard is more for looks vs functionality. It’s the backdrop of all of my YouTube and Instagram videos so I wanted it to look a bit more aesthetic. Also, to be honest I don’t want to have all of my power tools on display in every video giving these companies free marketing when I’m not sponsored by them.

But there are so many great track systems out there, you could build your own or even the simple store bought pegboard system is great with all the attachments they make for it.

Metal Buckets: https://bit.ly/3FCmKR0**

I bought these metal buckets on amazon to store some miscellaneous items.

Heavy Duty Wall Mounted Hooks (current wood storage): https://bit.ly/45TQNOS**

Lumber Rack: https://bit.ly/3SgqLSG**

Next we have storage for lumber. I wish I would’ve planned a better space for lumber storage but I don’t have tons of scrap wood. I reused these heavy duty hooks from the garage but if I had more room I would’ve purchased this 3 level lumber rack on amazon.

Small Parts Organizer (For Travel): https://bit.ly/3tXydIl**

I do some projects for friends and family so I like to have some organizers that I can travel with. This small parts organizer from Milwaukee is perfect to carry any small drill bits and drivers, any specialty screws or hooks.

It’s also a good idea to save old containers to travel with and to carry some miscellaneous items that are lost easily.

Larger Husky tool bag: https://bit.ly/40uikoF

Husky small tool bag: https://bit.ly/3tW89Nx

I have a large husky tool bag and a small husky tool bag. These are also great to travel with or to just carry tools into the house for projects. The small bag is perfect for those smaller hand tools and the big bag is great for batteries and power tools with tons of great pockets.

Husky Bucket organizer: https://bit.ly/470w3X3

I also came across this bucket organizer. I’ve been throwing tools into buckets for years and lugging them around so this is a perfect way to keep things separate and organized quickly.

I still have a little bit of organizing left to do and I’m sure it will be a non stop project as I accumulate more tools, but for now that’s all I have for workshop organization! I hope this helps you and gives you some good ideas on how you can better organize your garage/workshop!
