This fireplace is a focal point between the living room and dining room at my parents house. For a while we’ve been trying to think of how we can add a little color without overdoing it. Their kitchen island is painted this same beautiful blue color, and we wanted to incorporate it on the fireplace wall as well! Check out these 4 easy steps on giving your fireplace a facelift!

STEP 1: Prep & Paint!
Prep your work area with painters tape and drop cloths if necessary. Then PAINT PAINT PAINT!
STEP 2: Cut & Install Mantle
Use the miter saw to cut your 6X6 post. Sand down all visible surfaces with a sanding block. Next, drill two 1/2″ holes through the mantle and wall with your ager bit, and secure to the wall using the 10″ lag screws w/ washers. Make sure that you are securing the lag screws into your wall studs by using a stud finder.
STEP 3: Cut & Install Trim Pieces
Measure the picture that you want to use above the fireplace, then add 4″ to each side so that your trim frames the picture evenly. After nailing the trim to the wall with a brad nailer, fill in the nail holes with wood filler. Finally, paint the trim and move onto the next step!
STEP 4: Add Decor & ENJOY!!
Add your favorite decor pieces to finalize your look and enjoy a glass of wine by your new fireplace!
