Step 1: Prep & Paint!
If you plan to repaint the wall for your picture molding prep your work area with painters tape and drop cloths if necessary. Follow instructions specified on your paint can and move to the next step!
Step 2: Measure & Install Trim Pieces
Cut the trim to your desired size and lay out the trim pieces with masking tape on the wall so that you can visualize how it will look.
For this step, we measured the picture that we wanted to use above the fireplace and added 4″ to each side (so that our trim would frame the picture evenly). Cut your trim at a 45 degree angle so the corners match up. Nail the trim to the wall with a brad nailer only putting two or 3 nails in each trim piece.
Step 3: Wood Filler, Sand, Paint!
Fill in the nail holes, and any cracks in the corners with wood filler. Use your sanding block to sand over the nail holes, corners and anywhere that you filled with wood filler. Add a coat or two to the picture frame trim and you’re finished!
